About Cunning Strike

Cunning Strike would be a great addition to a tempo or control deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it provides both removal and card draw in one card. While it is a solid choice for decks looking to maintain board control and generate card advantage, there are potentially better options like Lightning Bolt or Electrolyze that offer more immediate impact or flexibility. However, Cunning Strike could still see play in certain metagames or deck strategies that value its combination of effects.

You can’t cast Cunning Strike unless you target both a creature and a player. If one target (but not both) is illegal as Cunning Strike resolves, it deals damage to the remaining legal target and you draw a card. If both targets are illegal, the spell won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won’t draw a card in that case.
