Detonation

About Detonation

Detonation, Spell, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Skybound Odyssey.

I’m checking the card’s practical role from its cost, sacrifice clause, and Reserve interaction, with particular attention to whether it is efficient removal or mainly a niche tempo tool.Detonation best fits an Axiom midrange or tempo deck that creates expendable Permanents, such as Tokens, Landmarks, or cheap utility Permanents, because sacrificing one can make its four-cost Reserve effect more efficient while also triggering sacrifice-based value; it is particularly useful against expensive Characters, though sending a Character to Reserve is temporary and can be weak against cheap Characters with strong replay effects. However, it is generally worse than cheaper, more reliable Reserve-removal options such as **Boom!**, which provides similar interaction without requiring a Permanent sacrifice, so Detonation should usually not see play in streamlined competitive lists unless your deck specifically benefits from sacrificing Permanents or needs additional flexible removal.
