About The Shell
The Shell, Character, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Seeds of Unity.
The Shell is best in Axiom decks that actively reward cards entering or being played from Reserve, especially Sierra & Oddball or Treyst & Rossum builds, because its Reserve ability filters a weak or situational card out of your hand, triggers Reserve-related synergies, and replaces that card with a draw; however, it provides no true card advantage and is underwhelming if drawn early or played from hand. Axiom already has stronger, more proactive two-drops and Reserve enablers—most notably Foundry Armorer for efficient board presence and Axiom Salvager when recurring useful permanents matters—so those cards are generally better unless your list specifically needs additional Reserve setup or discard-style filtering. The Shell is therefore a niche one- or two-copy consistency tool for dedicated Reserve decks, not a staple, and it should usually be omitted from generic Axiom or tempo-focused lists.
