Sturdy Shield Token is een uitrusting met een zeer lage impact en zou vooral passen in zeer informele, energiezuinige of beperkte omgevingen waar elke herhaalbare statboost van belang is, meestal in op wit gebaseerde go-wide wezensdecks of decks met uitrustingsthema op beginnersniveau die alleen maar goedkope artefacten willen om kleine wezens een boost te geven. Echter, het betalen van {2} voor uitrusting voor slechts +1/+2 is volgens moderne normen onder de maat, en competitieve of zelfs afgestemde casual decks hebben veel betere opties. Bottensplitter (+2/+0 voor {1} om te werpen en {1} om uit te rusten), Darksteel Axe (+2/+0 voor {2}, onverwoestbaar, rust {2} uit), Maul of the Skyclaves (onmiddellijke impact bij vliegen en eerste slag), en vooral Colossus Hammer (+10/+10) in speciale builds zijn aanzienlijk sterker.
