Ajax is best in a Bravos midrange or ramp-style deck that expects to recycle Characters from Expeditions into Reserve and then redeploy expensive, high-impact Characters, especially ones with strong “when played from Reserve” effects; however, it is a slow, conditional four-cost investment because the discount only matters after Ajax leaves an Expedition and only applies to another Character, so it is usually weaker than immediate tempo plays or cheaper cost-reduction engines in a deck that needs to win expeditions now. It should see play only if your list has a high Character count, several five-plus-cost targets worth discounting, and a reliable way to get Ajax back to Reserve; otherwise, prioritize more efficient four-cost Characters with immediate expedition stats or effects, since Ajax’s payoff is delayed and can be irrelevant if the expedition remains open or the game ends before the discount is used.
