About Thunderbird
Thunderbird, Character, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Roots of Corruption.
Thunderbird best fits a Yzmir deck built around repeatedly triggering Ascension—especially a spell-heavy, tempo-oriented list that can reliably give its own Expedition the Ascends ability and move it forward, turning Thunderbird into a three-cost body that replaces itself while advancing your board. However, it is fairly conditional: without a dependable Ascension engine, its draw effect may never trigger, making it weaker than more reliable card-advantage options such as **Haven, Bringer of Knowledge** or other low-cost draw cards that generate value immediately rather than waiting for a specific Expedition state. Thunderbird should see play only if your deck is deliberately built around Ascension and can trigger it consistently; in a normal Yzmir deck, it is probably too slow and situational, while in a dedicated Ascension build it can be a reasonable synergy inclusion but not an automatic staple.
