Tech Lab Unit is best in Axiom decks that routinely Resupply, generate cards into Reserve, or need to hold several situational answers/combo pieces there; the extra Reserve slot is most valuable for slower value, control, and engine decks rather than proactive lists that want to spend all their mana advancing expeditions. There is no strictly better card for the specific “increase Reserve limit” effect, but cards that Resupply while also providing immediate board presence or a stronger engine will usually be preferable when the fourth Reserve slot is not central to your plan. As a result, Tech Lab Unit is a niche but reasonable inclusion for Reserve-focused builds, while most standard Axiom decks should skip it because paying 2 Axiom for delayed hand-management value is a meaningful tempo cost.
