About Polyphemus
Polyphemus, Character, first released in September 2026 in the set Neverending Journey.
Polyphemus best fits a slow, late-game Axiom deck that can reliably fill its Reserve with expendable Characters and exploit its Gigantic body to pressure both Expeditions, especially a control or ramp strategy that wants a large threat rather than efficient early tempo; its Reserve-discard ability can make it a formidable finisher, but paying six mana and sacrificing another Character for only three boosts is quite costly, while Tough 1 is useful but not enough to compensate for its low flexibility and delayed impact. In most constructed decks, stronger alternatives are efficient six-cost finishers such as **Ordis Overseer** or other Axiom threats that generate immediate value, provide better board control, or do not require discarding a useful Reserve card, so Polyphemus should generally not see competitive play unless your deck is specifically built around Gigantic, Reserve generation, and disposable Characters; even then, it is more of a thematic or metagame choice than an optimal s
