About Icarus
Icarus, Character, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Whispers from the Maze and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.
Icarus best fits a reserve-focused Axiom deck that deliberately sends characters to Reserve, exploits cards entering or leaving Reserve, and wants a burst of ready resources for a second wave of plays; its alternate-cost Scout lets you convert just 1 mana into a delayed Reserve payoff, but you give up a board presence and need several useful cards already there, making the normal 4-cost play fairly slow. There is no universally better one-for-one replacement because Icarus’s mass-ready effect is unusual, but in most general Axiom decks cheaper characters, ramp, or more reliable Reserve generators will provide greater value and consistency. I would test Icarus only in a dedicated Reserve engine or a deck that can repeatedly capitalize on readying many Reserve cards; otherwise, it should probably not see competitive play.
