About Defect
Defect, Spell, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Skybound Odyssey.
Defect is best suited to a Yzmir control or tempo deck that can afford a six-mana play and wants to swing an expedition by stealing an opposing low-cost character, especially when that character has a strong ability, is already damaged, or can be exploited by your own buffs and support effects; however, its six-cost price, Fleeting limitation, and restriction to Hand Cost 4 or less make it unreliable compared with dedicated removal. If your goal is simply to answer an opposing character, cards such as `Banishing Blow` or `Bouncing Blight` are generally better because they are cheaper or more broadly applicable, while a strong Yzmir tempo character is usually a better way to build board presence than Defect. I would test Defect only in a slower control list or a deck specifically built around stealing and benefiting from enemy characters, but it should not see regular competitive play as a main-deck staple unless the metagame is dominated by powerful cost-4-or-less targets.
