About Wave Away
Wave Away, Spell, first released in September 2026 in the set Neverending Journey.
Wave Away best fits a low-curve Yzmir tempo or control deck that wants to disrupt early plays while developing its own board, especially against decks built around strong one- and two-cost Characters; however, sending a Character to Reserve is only temporary and becomes a poor late-game play because six or more Mana Orbs causes Wave Away to be discarded, so it offers little value once the game reaches that point. It is generally weaker than more reliable Yzmir interaction such as **Hypnotize**, which can affect a broader range of targets and provides better disruption, while permanent removal or stronger tempo effects are preferable whenever available. Wave Away can see play as a budget or metagame choice in a deck expecting many cheap threats, but it should not be an automatic inclusion: use it only if your local opponents commonly rely on low-cost Characters and your deck benefits from early tempo rather than needing durable removal.
