About Tag!

Tag!, Spell, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Seeds of Unity.

Tag! best fits a Lyra control or midrange deck that can keep the opponent’s board small while forcing them to play an expensive Character or Permanent, since it is especially useful against ramp, landmark, and single-threat strategies; however, its 4 Lyra cost is high and the opponent controls the sacrifice choice when several cards share the highest Base Cost, so it is unreliable against wide low-cost boards. In most decks, `Banishment` is better because it provides more flexible, unconditional removal without depending on the target having the highest Base Cost, while `Tag!` is mainly worth playing as a metagame choice against decks built around one or two costly permanents or Characters; otherwise, it should generally not see play.
