About Studious Acolyte
Studious Acolyte, Character, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Skybound Odyssey.
Studious Acolyte is best in a slow Axiom ramp or midrange deck built around repeatedly playing expensive permanents—especially lists with several four- or five-cost landmarks, Characters, or other permanents that can benefit from the discount from either Hand or Reserve; it is much less attractive in aggressive decks, which cannot afford to spend two mana on a setup Character. However, it is only worthwhile if you can reliably discount at least two expensive permanents, since a single discount merely refunds its own cost and leaves you with a relatively modest body; in most competitive lists, a proactive permanent or stronger value engine such as `Foundry Armorer` is generally better because it contributes immediately and supports the same expensive-permanent strategy without requiring as narrow a deck construction. Studious Acolyte should therefore see play mainly as a synergy piece in dedicated Axiom big-permanent or ramp builds, but it is not an automatic inclusion and should be ski
