About Beowulf
Beowulf, Character, designed by None first released in September 2026 in the set Skybound Odyssey.
Beowulf best fits a Bravos midrange or tempo deck built around repeatedly sending characters out of the Expedition zone and exploiting cheap, high-impact Characters—especially cards with strong Reserve effects—because its ability can convert a 5-cost body into additional board presence without spending resources. However, it is relatively slow and conditional: you must first pay five, wait for Beowulf to leave the Expedition zone, and then have a worthwhile target costing two or less, so it is weaker than simply playing efficient threats directly; cards such as `Bravos Vanguard`, `Bravos Blades`, or other low-cost Characters that provide immediate stats or effects are generally better in aggressive lists. Beowulf should see play only in a dedicated value or combo-oriented Bravos build that can reliably trigger its departure and has excellent cheap targets; in ordinary Bravos tempo or aggro decks, its setup cost makes it a fringe option rather than a staple.
