Gray best fits a low-cost Yzmir sacrifice or swarm deck that can reliably feed it expendable Characters, exploit sacrifice triggers, and use the boost to push a key Character through an expedition; however, it is conditional and tempo-negative because Gray must exhaust and you lose a Character, while the Molted Maw is only created at Noon when you are first player. In most competitive decks, I would prefer a more proactive zero-cost support card such as `Mana Channeling` or another card that directly develops a Character or advances an expedition, since those effects provide value without requiring a sacrifice or first-player timing. Gray should see play only in a dedicated sacrifice-synergy list—especially one that can repeatedly create cheap Characters or benefits from Characters dying—not as a generally strong Yzmir inclusion.
