Studious Acolyte belongs in a Yzmir spell-control or combo deck that deliberately runs several impactful spells with base costs of 7 or more—especially cards you want to cast from Reserve, where the discount can turn an otherwise awkward Reserve cost into a much smoother play—but it is poor in normal low-curve Yzmir lists and unreliable if it has only a few valid targets; because playing the Acolyte itself costs 2, its discount is not pure mana acceleration on the first discounted spell, so its value is chiefly getting a character’s expedition stats alongside the expensive spell and improving flexibility rather than generating a huge tempo swing.
