Brainwash is best in a Lyra tempo or disruption deck that reliably places cheap opposing Characters into Reserve, since stealing a Character for 3 Lyra can create a strong swing while putting immediate pressure into one of your Expeditions; however, the Reserve Cost 2 restriction and Fleeting keyword make it situational, and against decks with expensive Characters or little Reserve interaction it is effectively a weak three-cost spell. In most competitive lists, **A Change of Plans** is generally better because it offers more flexible Reserve manipulation and does not depend on the opponent having a sufficiently cheap Character available, while Brainwash is mainly worthwhile as a metagame or sideboard-style choice against low-cost Character decks. It should see play only if your deck actively exploits opposing Reserve cards or can consistently turn the stolen Character into additional value; otherwise, its ceiling is attractive but its reliability is too low for a core inclusion.
