Beowulf best fits a permanent-heavy Axiom midrange or control deck—especially one using low-cost Buildings, Landmarks, or other Permanents that provide immediate value when cheated into play, while also having ways to send Beowulf from an Expedition such as opposing removal, movement effects, or sacrifice/bounce effects; however, its five-Axiom cost and delayed, conditional payoff make it weaker than more consistent Axiom staples such as Brassbug Hub or other efficient Permanents when your deck does not reliably have a powerful target, so it should generally be treated as a build-around or one-to-two-copy value option rather than an automatic staple.
